  • Montreal is one of 53% of cities with a park system master plan updated within the last 10 years.
  • Montreal is above average for the number of community gardens relative to population for cities over 500,000 residents, at nearly 6 community gardens per 100,000 people.
  • Montreal is one of 57% of cities that has a seniors strategy that includes parks.
  • Montreal’s new Nature and Sports Plan, released in 2021, “puts nature at the heart of the city” to improve quality of life and climate change mitigation. The plan has four key components: Green Montréal, Blue Montréal, Montréal’s Mountain and Active Montréal.
  • Skis, snowshoes and winter kites were available for free on a first-come-first-served basis at Frédéric-Back Park, provided by cultural institution TOHU. The initiative provided an accessible opportunity for residents to get outdoors this winter and explore the park’s nine kilometres of trails.
  • The city and the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau announced that a total of $10.5 million has been allocated toward revitalizing the picnic shelter and chalet at Parc Jean-Drapeau, both of which are considered to be heritage buildings.
